My baby, now a full-fledged toddler, just turned two years old! My husband and I are very proud parents. You can see the gleam in both our eyes and smiles when we are watching him be his magical self, doing the things that only he does for his own enjoyment. J’s ability to entertain himself is my favorite, and he often cracks me up when I’m supposed to be “parenting” (like when he’s in time-out, full face smashed into the corner because he knows it will make me laugh too hard to still be mad).
This child has brought so much wonder and joy into my life and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to be his mother. There’s much on my heart and mind about my relationship with my son, but what I will share is this:
A child is a gift, bestowed to us by a loving God. This gift does not make us more special; rather, we are here to witness the special preciousness of our child.
As a mother, I am here to serve my child: directing and caring for his special soul, helping him to become himself. My destiny is to help him discover his destiny, and to love him boundlessly, forever.
Through the journey of caring for the baby, raising the child, and one day sending the man out into the world, I am guided by the following:
“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment.” – Henry David Thoreau
