At Breakfast Time

My son, I will not fight you anymore.

You, in and of yourself, I will not fight.

You do not know what you want from one second to another

and that’s okay.

I will no longer force you into choosing.

As your mother, I will not try to control you any longer

or bend your will to my own.

You are exploring yourself while

I am exploring letting go of control.

You will say that you don’t want to eat breakfast and I will say,

“that’s fine,”

as I pack it up for you to eat later.
