The minimum is not the budget

Every one of these numbers is a floor the visa officer checks against, not an estimate of what you will spend. Australia’s own page says real living costs can be much higher than the amount it asks for. The UK amount covers nine months even if your course runs twelve. Treat the calculator’s answer as the money that must be visible on paper, and plan the actual year with the cost of studying abroad calculator.

How the money has to be held

Timing matters as much as the amount. The UK wants the funds held for 28 consecutive days, with the last day no more than 31 days before you apply. A balance that arrives the week before you file fails, however large it is. Canada asks for six months of bank statements and the source of the money, so a sudden large deposit invites questions.

A loan sanction letter usually counts. The UK, Canada and Australia all accept an education loan from a financial institution as evidence, which is often easier than parking lakhs in a savings account. What the letter must say, and the mistakes that get it rejected, are in our guide to the loan sanction letter as proof of funds. For the documents each country accepts, see proof of funds for a student visa.

Germany works differently. The money goes into a blocked account and comes back to you monthly once you arrive, so the real cost is the transfer, not the deposit. The Germany blocked account calculator works out the forex margin, provider fees and TCS.

Questions people ask

How much bank balance is required for a Canada student visa?

For applications made on or after 1 September 2026, a single student going anywhere outside Quebec needs CAD 23,448 for living costs, plus first year tuition and the cost of travel. The figure rises with each family member who comes with you.

How much money is required for a UK student visa from India?

Your first year tuition as shown on the CAS, minus anything already paid, plus GBP 1,529 a month in London or GBP 1,171 a month elsewhere, for up to nine months. Indian applicants are not on the UK’s reduced evidence list, so expect to show it.

Can my parents’ account be used as proof of funds?

Generally yes, with proof of the relationship and their consent. The UK accepts funds held by a parent or legal guardian with a birth certificate and a consent letter. Other countries accept a parent as a sponsor with evidence of the source of the money.
